Shared scientific capital belongs to everyone

Our work strengthens the science capital of individuals and groups alike, providing deeper understanding on how to interpret and use information on the different topics of science.

What we do

The Museum of Technology tells the story of technology in Finland. We are the only general museum of technology in Finland, and the Nationally Responsible Museum (valtakunnallinen vastuumuseo) of our field. Our work strengthens the science capital of individuals and groups alike, providing deeper understanding on how to interpret and use information on the different topics of science. We offer exhibitions, workshops, educational materials, and keep our cultural heritage documented.

Exhibitions

Our main exhibitions TechLand and TeleDreams tell the story of Finland from when it was an agrarian society to it becoming a leading developer and producer of high tech in the global market. The exhibitions offer new perspectives into the history of technology and towards its future. Our third exhibition The Ghost and the Invention Device is an interactive and child-centered learning environment that includes versatile learning methods. The environment, together with museum objects, supports children’s creative museum engagement and encourages them to observe, use and understand technology as a part of their everyday life.

All our exhibitions are designed to strengthen the experience of inclusion for all visitor, highlighting their own meaning as users and producers of technology. Our customers are active partners in designing and creating new services and contents for our museum – we co-produce exhibitions, offer workshops and produce events that are open for everyone to participate. We emphasize shared expertise and doing cultural heritage work together with customers and our wide network of stakeholders.

We are part of the social change that technology makes possible, and we actively bring into discussion the importance of technology as the maker of our future.

Our values are joy, equality, sustainability, and expertise.

Our collection

The exhibitions and our services are based on a unique collection, which we enrich and utilize together with customers, experts and enthusiasts. As the Nationally Responsible Museum (valtakunnallinen vastuumuseo) of our field, our collection work is done to record Finnish industrial cultural heritage for research purposes, and for the public through e.g. exhibitions, services, communication and online collections.

Technology is part of our entire society. Without documenting and researching the industrial cultural heritage, it’s impossible to know the past, understand the present, or aim for the future. Knowledge of industrial cultural heritage helps us all to understand our society as a whole.
