Spanning multiple geographies and cultural positions, the artworks touch on the operations of chance, unpredictability, agency and control within the setting of the collection of the Museum of Technology in Helsinki. The Museum of Technology holds a collection of objects labelled as “EINOs”. These objects have an indeterminate status which stems from their unknown origin or purpose, separating them from the rest of the museum’s holdings. This uncertainty however, becomes their most interesting characteristic, shifting their focus from what they are to what they could be. Unlike their more wholly documented counterparts in the collection, the EINOs offer speculation and possibility, forming the starting point for a group exhibition addressing chance, luck and serendipity. ei numeroa is a collaborative exhibition between Doctoral students and alumni from the Academy of Fine Arts, Uniarts Helsinki, Elam School of Fine Arts at Waipapa Taumata Rau | The University of Auckland and the Finnish Museum of Technology. The exhibition is the final element of a wider exchange between the participating artists, which has included the exhibition eight thousand layers of moments at Gus Fisher Gallery in Tāmaki Makaurau/Auckland in 2024 and an experimental publication to be published alongside the exhibition. The exhibition is supported by Uniarts Helsinki ́s Academy of Fine Arts in partnership with Saastamoinen Foundation, Taike and the Finnish Museum of Technology.
