Kolmiovinen Fiat 127 - henkilöauto on tässä kuvattu mainosta varten sivusta. Auton takapään kohdalle on lastattu melkoinen matkalaukkuarmeija odottamaan tavaratilaan pääsyä.

Produced in 1971, the Fiat 127 was a commercially successful super minicar, and one with a loyal following due to its practicality and engine strength. The 127 weighed 720 kilograms, and its design was a response to the 1970’s oil crisis. Cars were designed smaller (hence, supermini) and more oil efficient due to car manufacturers at the time believing that oil reserves will run dry soon.

Today, cars that reach the end of their useful life (as in, not roadworthy) have their liquids, tires, air-bags and such, removed before the metal can be scrapped and recycled. Any parts that are in good condition can be reused again as spares. In 2023, a total of 69,991 vehicles were scrapped in Finland.

The average size of cars has increased over the years, with around 75.5% of a vehicle’s weight being metal. Today, recycled cars yield 740kg of recycled steel on average.
