This DC generator was manufactured by Paul Wahl & Co. in Vyborg during the 1900s. In addition to producing electrical machinery, the company also owned an electricity distribution company in Vyborg and built the Lavola hydroelectric power station in Russia.
In 1888, Paul Wahl & Co began producing electrical equipment in Vyborg. Under the leadership of Carl Wahl, dynamos were already in production a year prior, in the electrical department of a shop in Varkaus. The family business became one of the first industrial players in the electrical sector in Finland. The company supplied products to both Verla and Russia, and collaborated with Daniel Wadén, the founder of the Helsinki lighting plant. Gottfrid Strömberg, founder of Stromberg Oy, started his career at Wahl. He was responsible for representing Wahl in Helsinki before starting his own successful business. In the 1910s, Wahl’s electrical operations were sold to AEG and the production of electrical machinery in Vyborg eventually winded down.
